Hoisting ceremony of the Chief of HNGS’s command emblem at the Floating Naval Museum “BATTLESHIP GEORGIOS AVEROF” and inauguration of the “Sea Landscapes” Exhibition

On Tuesday, July 29, 2014, the ceremony of hoisting the Chief of HNGS’s command emblem at the Floating Naval Museum “BATTLESHIP GEORGIOS AVEROF” took place. The ceremony was attended by the Alternate Minister of National Defence Fofi Gennimata, the Minister of Culture Kostas Tasoulas and the Deputy Minister of National Defence Ioannis Lampropoulos.

The ceremony was also attended by the Chief of HNDGS General Michail Kostarakos, the Chief of HAFGS Lieutenant General Evangelos Tournas, the Chief of HNGS Vice Admiral Evangelos Apostolakis and the Chief of HAGS Lieutenant General Christos Manolas.

The emblem will permanently remain on the “BATTLESHIP GEORGIOS AVEROF”. This ship bears a particularly special historical significance for the Armed Forces and our Nation, since it was the ship of Admiral P. Kountouriotis in the Balkan Wars 1912-13 and it had a decisive contribution to the modern history of Greece whereas it still is a living cell of the Hellenic Navy.

Along with the hoisting ceremony, was also inaugurated the Exhibition “Sea Landscapes” from the collection of the Gallery of Athens School of Fine Arts on the Floating Naval Museum “BATTLESHIP GEORGIOS AVEROF”.

The Floating Naval Museum “BATTLESHIP GEORGIOS AVEROF”, through this exhibition of paintings from the collection of the gallery of Athens School of Fine Arts, inaugurates its cooperation with one of our country’s highest art institutes. The exhibition is composed of 19 paintings of Greek artists related to the sea. The participating artists are: Michalis Oikonomou, Valia Semertzidi, Polykleitos Regkos, Sotiris Sorogkas, Alekos Fasianos, Kyriakos Katzourakis, Alexandros Alexandrakis, Nikos Paralis, Ioannis Giazis, Kaiti Mavrokefalou, Dimitrios Mpraessas, Konstantinos Sofianopoulos, Dimitris Gioldasis, Pepi Svoronou-Kokkinidou, Dimosthenis Kokkinidis.

The exhibition will be hosted on the Floating Naval Museum “BATTLESHIP GEORGIOS AVEROF” until October 10, 2014.
