On Tuesday 25 October 2016 at 19.00, in the amphitheatre of the Athens War Museum (Rizari 2), the Ministry of National Defence will organise the event “World War II: The Cretan Resistance through the German records processed by the Army History Directorate”.
The event is part of a wider circle of activities under the general title “Liberated Athens”, on the occasion of the 12th October, the day when Athens was liberated in 1944 from the Nazi occupation troops, while at the same time it is connected to the celebration of the national anniversary of the 28th October.
The event includes a presentation by the Army History Directorate of data and documents from the records of Wehrmacht, processed by the Army History Directorate and a speech for the Cretan Resistance, in the Battle of Crete, as well as the National Resistance that followed. The music and dancing band of the Cretan Union of Keratsini – Drapetsona will contribute to the event.
In the context of these events a 14 kilometres Race of Memory and Honour: Block 15 (Chaidari Camp) – Skopeftirio Kaisariani, will be conducted on Sunday 6 November 2016, at 09.00 in the morning. This race for the public will commence in front of the building of the sentenced to die prisoners of Block 15 in Chaidari Camp and will finish at the execution point of Skopeftirio Kaisariani, following the regular course chosen by the German freight cars to transfer the fighters of the resistance that were sentenced to death. The race is organised by the Supreme Sports Council of the Armed and Security Forces in cooperation with the Attica Prefecture. The racers will bear messages that the prisoners used to throw from the German freight cars, since along with the racers’ number of participation, messages of the fighters will also be printed.
