Pursuant to the relevant directive of the Minister of National Defence, Mr. Nikos Dendias, Phase A of the planning for the redeployment and merger of Units, due to the change to the disposition of Formations and the abolition of Army camps, within the framework of the Armed Forces’ reorganization and their New Structure, is implemented directly by the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (HNDGS). Phase A is to be completed by 31 December 2024.
The objective is to increase the level of staffing by abolishing understaffed Units and merging them where required, as well as to increase their operational capabilities and the Formations’ capabilities on the basis of modern operational requirements.
In particular, the following changes are to take place by 31 December 2024:

“MAJOR PANAGIOTIS MANTOUVALOS” Camp in Gytheio – Lakonia is abolished and the Unit based therein, will be transferred to “COLONEL KONSTANTINOS DAVAKIS” Camp in Xyrokampi – Lakonia.

“LIEUTENANT NIKOLAOS GERAKINIS” Camp in Malakasa – Attika is abolished and the Unit based therein, will be transferred to “RES. SECOND LIEUTENANT DIMITRIOS PANOURGIAS” Camp in Avlaki – Stylida, Fthiotida.

“CAPTAIN IOANNIS KALLERGIS” Camp in Omvriaki – Fthiotida is abolished and the Unit based therein, will be transferred to “SECOND LIEUTENANT DIMITRIOS PANOURGIAS” Camp in Avlaki – Stylida, Fthiotida.

“MAJOR IOANNIS VELISSARIOS” Camp in Ioannina and the Units based therein will be transferred to “MAJOR GENERAL CHARALAMPOS KATSIMITROS” Camp in Perama – Ioannina and to “CAPTAIN LORENTZOS MAVILIS” Camp in Kalpaki – Ioannina.

“PAPAPASCHALIS” Camp in Panorama – Thessaloniki is abolished and the Unit based therein, will be transferred to “MAJOR VASILEIOS PAPASTAVROU” Camp in Nea Mesimvria – Thessaloniki.

The Unit based at “MAJOR DIMITRIOS KALLERGIS” Camp in Antimacheia – Kos island is merged with the Unit based at “GENERAL IOANNIS MAKRYGIANNIS” Camp in Pyli – Kos island. “MAJOR DIMITRIOS KALLERGIS” Camp is abolished.

The Unit based at “KAPETAN EVANGELOS MATSIANIS” in Lepti – Orestiada, Evros is merged with the Unit based at “COLONEL IOANNIS THEODORAKIS” Camp in Lagos – Evros. “KAPETAN EVANGELOS MATSIANIS” Camp is abolished.

The Unit based at “RES. SECOND LIEUTENANT MILTIADIS ZACHOS” Camp in Nea Vyssa – Evros is merged with the Unit based at “CAPTAIN IOANNIS GOUMENAKIS” Camp in Rizia – Evros. “RES. SECOND LIEUTENANT MILTIADIS ZACHOS” Camp is abolished.

The Unit based at “SECOND LIEUTENANT DIMITRIOS ANAGNOSTOU” Camp in Peplo – Evros is merged with the Unit based at “CHIEFTAIN CHRYSOMALLIDIS” Camp in Doriskos – Evros. “SECOND LIEUTENANT DIMITRIOS ANAGNOSTOU” Camp is abolished.

The National Guard Battalion based at “CHIEFTAIN THEODOROS AMPATZOPOULOS” in Metaxades – Evros is merged with the National Guard Battalion based at “AGIA FOTEINI” Camp in Didymoticho – Evros. “CHIEFTAIN THEODOROS AMPATZOPOULOS” Camp is abolished.
Phase B for the abolishment of Camps and the relocation – merger of Units will follow, to be implemented by 31 March 2025.
With regard to the above Camps, upon completion of relocations – mergers, the National Defence Fund shall immediate initiate actions to optimize their development.
