The Ministry of National Defence will implement for the first time a comprehensive energy efficiency upgrade programme for the facilities of Armed Forces Military Plants and the modernisation of their mechanical equipment, with a total budget of 63.5 mil. Euro.

The programme consists of six projects, which are part of the Sectoral Development Programme of the Ministry of National Defence (2026-2030) concerning the following:

1. The Joint Military Plant (700 th Military Plant) in Attica, with a budget of 20 mil. Euro.
2. The Forward Base Plant (304 th Forward Base Plant) of the Hellenic Army in Volos, with a budget of 20.5 mil. Euro.
3. The Forward Base Plant (308 th Forward Base Plant) of the Hellenic Army in Thessaloniki, with a budget of 7 mil. Euro.                                                                                                                      4. The Joint Armed Forces Chemical Laboratory in Attica, with a budget of 6.1 mil. Euro.
5. The naval asset maintenance and repair facilities of the Hellenic Navy at Salamis Naval Base – Machine Shop, Fitting Shop, and Hangar – with a budget of 7 mil. Euro.
6. The Hellenic State Aircraft Factory of the Hellenic Air Force in Attica, with a budget of 2.9 mil. Euro.

Those projects are also part of the efforts to upgrade and enhance the production capabilities of the Armed Forces, since 28 mil. Euro (44.1%) is earmarked for the procurement and installation of modern mechanical equipment.

The completion of the interventions will increase the production capacity of Military Plants, modernise production and repair procedures, and achieve a sharp decline in the energy requirements of the facilities. At the same time, the capability for the Armed Forces to upgrade, repair, and maintain crucial assets using their own resources is provided.

It is worth noting that this investment is part of the broader effort to strengthen the national defence and military production foundations and limit dependency on external suppliers for crucial support works.
