Today, 1 April 2021, the Minister of National Defence Mr. Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos received in his office the Mayor of Marathon Mr. Stergios Tsirkas and the Mayor of Rafina Mr. Evangelos Bournous to discuss matters pertaining to the accommodation of fire stricken citizens in the area of Mati, Attica, in July 2018, in summer resorts of the Armed Forces. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr. Alkiviadis Stefanis, HNDGS Chief General Konstantinos Floros, HAFGS Chief Lieutenant General Georgios Blioumis and HAGS Chief Lieutenant General Charalambos Lalousis.
Following the thorough briefing, they highlighted the will of the Ministry of National Defence to contribute where appropriate to the joint settlement of the matter and they stressed that the fire stricken citizens hosted at the Agios Andreas Army Resort and at the Air Force Resort in Zoumberi have received all aid possible , as far as their accommodation and messing since 2018 are concerned.
The Minister of National Defence conveyed to the mayors his intention to extend the stay of the victims whose houses have not been fully restored yet, as long as they present all necessary supporting documents. He stressed that there is a good will to make these military accommodations available, as long as people do not overuse this right.
