The Alternate Minister of National Defence Panos Rigas, while interviewed at the “Sto Kokkino 105,5” radio station by Giorgos Trapeziotis, on Thursday 06 June 2019, mentioned among other things:
Regarding the enactment procedure of the new Penal Code and the Code of Criminal Procedure:
The Ministry of Justice has correctly proceeded with the enactment of the Penal Code, an action required by the legal field and for which there is political consent. I want the Greek people to know that this Parliament’s life cycle has not ended. It is constitutionally unacceptable that the New Democracy party, the Movement for Change and the Communist Party intervene in such a way to hinder the state’s function. This is the core of their perception regarding the function of democracy. These are bills which had to be enacted in the context of the continued function of the state.
Pertaining to the third report of the post-memoranda fiscal surveillance of the European Committee:
The contradictory and inconsistent stance of the New Democracy party throughout this period, on one hand asking the European partners to not abolish the lowering of the tax allowance limit and on the other hand submitting a proposal in the Parliament for the abolition of the lowering of the tax allowance limit, in combination with the electoral result, whetted the appetite of hardcore individuals in Brussels. So, while before the European Parliament Elections, the Commission had not mentioned anything about the alleviation measures declared by our government, since yesterday we are observing some extreme cycles bringing the scenario of austerity back to the forefront, along with expense cuts and lay-offs. The essence of our own policy is the proper management of public finances. The institutions have made similar predictions in the past and have been repeatedly proven wrong. They whetted the appetite of the EU’s hardcore individuals, but also of the hardcore individuals of the New Democracy party and the financial interests. The Greek people must consider the situation earnestly.
