Today, Thursday 28 May 2026, the Minister of National Defence Nikos Dendias and the Minister of Development Takis Theodorikakos had a meeting at the Ministry of National Defence.
During the meeting, they discussed the progress of the implementation of programme “THORAX”, which is funded by the Ministry of Development with €48,950,000 from Recovery Fund resources.
Programme “THORAX”, the relevant contract for which was signed by Mr. Dendias and Mr. Theodorikakos on 24 March 2025, is an integrated decision support system for the Armed Forces, part of the “Agenda 2030”.
The Programme collects data from all sensors of the competent state authorities (radar, air and ground assets, UAVs, observation posts, electronic assets) which, after sorting, prioritisation, and processing, using also Artificial Intelligence, is sent to the competent authority, thus facilitating decision making at the operational level.
In this manner, information from the Armed Forces, Civil Protection, and the Coast Guard is pooled and evaluated in combination in order to more effectively support the management of incidents related to national security.
In addition to military threats, the programme also helps address hybrid threats – such as illegal migrant smuggling network activity – as well as manage emergency situations.
During the meeting, the Minister of Development was also gave a briefing on the new status of the Development Law for the defence industry, aimed at strengthening the country’s production and technology base.
Finally, the two Ministers discussed the cooperation between the Ministry of National Defence and the Ministry of Development on matters of Defence Innovation, an area that provides significant new prospects.
