Meeting of the Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr Nikolaos Chardalias with the Minister of Defence of Armenia and the Catholicos of All Armenians in Yerevan

The Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr Nikolaos Chardalias met today, Thursday 2 June 2022, with the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia Mr Suren Papikyan, in the context of his official visit to the country.

During the meeting, conducted in a particularly cordial fashion at the Ministry of Defence of Armenia, the traditionally exceptional bilateral relations of the two countries were ascertained, which are founded on enduring, powerful, historical and cultural ties. It was stressed that there is a common intention for the continuation of utilisation of those ties and issues were discussed regarding the further upgrade of the intergovernmental cooperation in fields such as defence industry, military training and technology.

At the same time, views were exchanged pertaining to the challenges and threats in the field of Security in Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean.

Furthermore, the Deputy Minister of National Defence visited the premises of the Patriarchate of Armenia, where he conducted a ceremonious meeting with the Supreme Head of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin ΙΙ.

Before today’s meetings, Mr Chardalias had visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial complex, where he laid a wreath in honour and memory of the victims, while later he was given a briefing and a tour of the Museum of the same name. The Deputy Minister of National Defence during his visit to the Memorial, pointed out:

United with brotherly bonds, our Great nations maintain their historical path with a common, holy debt: to never forget!”.
