The Minister of National Defence Mr Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos met today, Wednesday 21 September, with a delegation of 11 individuals from the American organisation Business Executives for National Security – ΒΕΝS, which was accompanied by the US Ambassador in Athens Mr George Tsunis.
During the meeting, they stressed the significance of the strategic defence relation between Greece and the USA and of its further expansion and intensification, for the security of the two countries and the stability in the wider region.
The substantial role of Greece as a factor of security and stability in the region, the geopolitical value of Alexandroupoli and the importance of upgrading its facilities and infrastructures, through the constant flow of investments, were also showcased.
The Minister also mentioned the capabilities of the mutually beneficial cooperation of the Greek defence industry with the US defence industries, taking into consideration the comparative advantage, technical know-how and infrastructures at our country’s disposal.
Finally, the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean was discussed along with the developments of the war in Ukraine. Mr Panagiotopoulos made special mention of the significance of avoiding destabilising, violating and revisionist conduct, contrary to the International Law and the principles of good neighbourly relations.
