A Memorandum of Cooperation for the forthcoming relocation of a penal institution from Korydallos to the site of the old “American Convenience Stadium” in Aspropyrgos, was signed by the Ministry of National Defence and the Ministry of Citizen Protection, on Monday 13 January 2020.
The Memorandum was signed by the Minister of National Defence Mr. Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos, the Deputy Minister of Citizen Protection (responsible for Crime Policy) Mr. Eleftherios Oikonomou and the Secretary General for Crime Policy Ms. Sophia Nikolaou.
The ownership of the public estate to which the new Penal Institution will be relocated was conceded to the Ministry of Citizen Protection without any consideration, under the article 83 par. 1 of Law 4646/2019 (Government Gazette Issue A no. 201).
According to the preliminary contract, the Design and Construction Unit of the Ministry of National Defence will contribute to the approval of a Special Spatial Plan by conducting designs, preparing the approval file and providing technical support for the undertaking of designs.
It should be noted that the work for the relocation of the prison from Korydallos was an announcement made by the Prime Minister Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
