“I was briefed by the President of the Republic of Cyprus on the progress of negotiations. We all support the negotiations with the Government of Cyprus.
It is true that there are some “red line” issues for Hellenism. One is the issue of guarantees and, of course, the issue of the immediate departure of occupation troops from Cyprus.
We need to be extremely cautious during negotiations, some should abandon their efforts to regress to the 1960 regime, when the minority actually controlled the majority. The Government and the President of Cyprus are moving towards this direction.
That said, I hope that we will have a decision reached with seriousness which will facilitate the liberation of that part of Cyprus, which in 1974 was invaded and occupied.
We should not forget the resolutions reached by the United Nations Security Council, something is also dictated by international legitimacy. The solution apart from just should also be effective”.
QUESTION BY JOURNALIST: This morning Mrs Bakogiannis , on the Athenian-Macedonian News Agency Radio Station characterized as “inappropriate” Mr. Schauble’s statement on the Greek debt. Can you please provide a comment?
P.KAMMENOS: It took Mrs. Bakogiannis some time to comment on Mr. Schauble’s statement. That said, this shift of New Democracy as of yesterday, when they finally realized that the debt write-off is a national stance, will indeed assist the management of the economic crisis.
I am saddened to see that while the Greek Government is negotiating and foreign leaders at US President level, such as Barack Obama, are visiting with a view to help our country and not the government, with praising remarks such the ones delivered at the Stavros Niarchos foundation, there a interviews on Greek media in the US asking the resignation of the government.
We are in need of unity and a national stance. It was about time Mrs. Bakogiannis and New Democracy came closer to the beliefs of the government and are finally talking about the debt write-off.
