On Thursday, 21 March 2019, the Minister of National Defence Evangelos Apostolakis observed, on board the SALAMIS Frigate, the “PYRPOLITIS” readiness exercise, in the wider region of the Saronic Gulf and the Myrtoan Sea.
The Minister of National Defence was accompanied by the Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff General Christos Christodoulou, the Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff Lieutenant General Georgios Kambas, the Chief of the Hellenic Navy General Staff Vice Admiral Nikolaos Tsounis, the Chief of the Hellenic Air Force General Staff Lieutenant General Georgios Blioumis and the Fleet Commander in Chief Vice Admiral Stylianos Petrakis.
The Minister confirmed the high readiness and availability of the Armed Forces’ personnel and services’ assets, participating in the exercise. He also pointed out that the “PYRPOLITIS” readiness exercise presented the Armed Forces’ excellent level of joint cooperation, training and operational capability. This way, they contribute to the national effort of peace-keeping and cooperation reinforcement in the wider region, while at the same time, Greece’s role as a pillar of stability and safety guarantor in the Eastern Mediterranean Region is promoted.
