On Friday, 4 December 2020, the Minister of National Defence, Mr. Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos, met with the Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa Theodore II in Alexandria, within the framework of his official visit to Egypt.
The Minister was briefed extensively by His Divine Beatitude on the work, the contribution, and the missions of the Patriarchate of Alexandria in Egypt and all Africa. The Patriarch gave his blessing “to the Christ-loving Army of Greece” and expressed his gratitude for the help of the Motherland to the Hellenism of Egypt which keeps the presence of Hellenism and Orthodoxy alive in the region, confirming the excellent relations between Greece and Egypt. Mr. Panagiotopoulos was then given a tour of the Patriarchal Museums and the Tombs of the Patriarchs, while his visit was concluded with meetings with officials of the Greek Community of Alexandria.
The Minister of National Defence Mr. Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos’s visit was concluded on Saturday, 5 December. Accompanied by the Chief of Hellenic National Defence General Staff, General Konstantinos Floros, he attended the Greece – Egypt joint exercise “MEDUSA 10” in the sea area of Alexandria. In addition to Greek and Egyptian troops, the exercise will also include aeronautical forces and Special Forces troops from Cyprus, France, and the United Arab Emirates.
