June 28, 2018

The Minister of National Defence Panos Kammenos, accompanied by the Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff Admiral Evangelos Apostolakis and the Chief of the Hellenic Navy General Staff Vice Admiral Nikolaos Tsounis, attended the ‘MEDOUSA 6’ joint exercise, performed by Greece and Egypt; Cypriot forces also participated in the exercise.

The exercise was performed in the sea region of Alexandria and included ground fires and guided missiles fires, air operations, attack helicopters operations, parachutists jump, as well as demonstration of amphibious action.

The Minister of National Defence stated the following in his address:

“‘MEDOUSA 6’ exercise was just concluded, an exercise that we perform twice a year with the Egyptian Armed Forces, and this time Cypriot forces also participated.

All Middle Eastern countries participated as observers. It was an extremely successful exercise, with the participation of the Special Forces, the Navy, the Air Force and the Army.

Our cooperation with Egypt and the strengthening of our defence relations reinforce our country, in geopolitical terms.

Greece undoubtedly constitutes the core of a stability axis. Egypt is also a part of this stability axis, as leading force of the Arab world.

I would like to congratulate the Chiefs of Staffs, the officers, the non-commissioned officers and the soldiers, who participated in this exercise. They made us proud. The results produced by the Hellenic Armed Forces are excellent, as you have ascertained.

I would like to assure the Greek people that this new geopolitical force developing in the Mediterranean will play an important role in our economy’s growth as well’.
