On Wednesday 21 June 2023, the Minister of National Defence, Mr. Alkiviadis Stefanis, representing the Government, attended the events for the Anniversary of the Historic Battle of Kilkis.
Mr. Stefanis attended the Doxology at the Metamorphosis Sotiros Metropolitan Church, as well as the memorial service held at the Battle of Kilkis Memorial and laid a wreath. He also visited the War Museum and attended the parade that included Army troops, cultural and social organisations, and students.
Upon conclusion of the events, the Minister of National Defence stated the following:
“Today’s anniversary reminds us of a glorious page in History, which is an obvious result of the high morale, heroism, and bravery of the Hellenic Army. In the light of the disturbing international coincidence it becomes especially up to date, because out of its result it is worthy keeping some important lessons from Greece of the Balkan Wars time period.
First, the importance of the flawless preparation for war, which was achieved after a comprehensive and long term planning of armaments and reorganisation.
Second, the critical condition of diplomacy and the alliances, which were activated and fully effective at the time of crisis.
Third, the value of national unity, which was the focus of the Hellenic war effort.
When the whole Nation cooperates for high ideals, the impossible is achieved”.
