On Monday, 3 April 2023, the Minister of National Defence, Mr. Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos, met with Senator Rick Scott, a member of the Senate Committee on Armed Services, who is visiting Greece. The Senator was accompanied by the US Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission, Ms. Maria Olson.
The meeting highlighted the importance of the strategic defence partnership between Greece and the US and the upgraded (with the addition of new locations) Greece – US Mutual Defence Cooperation Agreement which strengthens the defence and security of the two countries and promotes stability in the broader region.
Within this framework, the prioritisation of the continual upgrade of the transportation and energy infrastructure of the port of Alexandroupolis was stressed in order to facilitate the transit of support for the defence of Ukraine, together with the need for continuous support for Ukraine in order to bolster its defence capabilities to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
