On Thursday 2 July 2026, the Minister of National Defence, Nikos Dendias, met the Leader of the Opposition and President of PASOK – Movement for Change, Nikos Androulakis, following the latter’s request. After their private meeting, a briefing in “Kapodistrias” Hall of the Ministry of National Defence followed, regarding matters of National Defence and the operational structure of the Armed Forces.
Upon the reception of Mr. Androulakis, Mr. Dendias stated:
“Mr. President, dear colleagues, I would like to thank you for your visit to the Ministry of National Defence. It is greatly important for us that all Parties and particularly the Opposition are briefed on what is going on in the Ministry, regarding the attempt to modernise and reform the Armed Forces, namely what we call the “Agenda 2030”. It is obvious that these national matters are not the property of a single Government or Party. Mr. President, we are always at your disposal, anytime, for any kind of briefing, which many times might be secret, and that is why we previously discussed some things in private. Of course, the briefing will be made by the actual leadership – not the political supervisor -, the Chief HNDGS, General Dimitrios Choupis.
Once again, I would like to thank you for being here today”.
The briefing was also attended by the Secretary General of the Ministry of National Defence Antonios Oikonomou. On behalf of the military leadership it was attended by the Chief HNDGS, General Dimitrios Choupis, the Chief HNGS, Vice Admiral Dimitrios – Eleftherios Kataras HN, the Chief HAFGS, Lieutenant General (HAF) Dimisthenis Grigoriadis, the Deputy Chief HAGS Lieutenant General Andreas Koronakis, as representative of the Chief HAGS, as well as the Director General of the General Directorate of National Defence Policy and International Relations, Ambassador a.h. Michel Spinellis, and the Director of HNDGS D Branch, Major General Ioannis Korres.
Mr. Androulakis was accompanied by the Head of the Standing Committee on National Defence for PASOK – Movement for Change, Michalis Katrinis, the Head of the Standing Committee on External Affairs of PASOK – Movement for Change, Dimitris Mantzos, and Member of the European Parliament Giannis Maniatis.
