Minister of National Defence N. Dendias to Travel to Italy – Meeting with Italian Counterpart & Signing of Implementing Arrangement for FREMM Frigates

On Tuesday, 8 September 2026, the Minister of National Defence, Nikos Dendias, will travel to Rome, where he will have a meeting with his Italian counterpart, Guido Crosetto.

The two ministers are expected to discuss the latest developments in the international and regional security environment, focusing mainly on European defence, the strategic situation in the Mediterranean and the Western Balkans, and the need to further strengthen the defence cooperation between Greece and Italy.

During the meeting between Mr. Dendias and Mr. Crosetto, the two sides will sign the Implementing Arrangement between the Hellenic Republic and the Italian Republic activating the acquisition programme for two Italian FREMM type (Bergamini class) frigates.

The Implementing Arrangement will be signed by the General Directorate for Defence Investments and Armaments (GDDIA) of the Ministry of National Defence and the respective Italian Armaments Directorate, in the presence also, for the Hellenic side, of the Chief of Hellenic National Defence General Staff, General Dimitrios Choupis, and the Chief of Hellenic Navy General Staff, Vice Admiral Dimitrios-Eleftherios Kataras HN, pursuant to the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and the Statement of Intent for the acquisition of the Italian FREMM type frigates signed on 29 September 2025 in La Spezia, Italy, during a meeting between Mr. Dendias and Mr. Crosetto.

The meeting will be followed by a press conference with the two Ministers.
