The Minister of National Defence, Nikos Dendias, visited today, Holy Saturday 11 April 2026, the Headquarters of the Supreme Military Command of Thrace “THRACE”, in Xanthi, where he was received by its’ Commanding General, Lieutenant General Panagiotis Kavidopoulos.
Mr. Dendias exchanged Easter wishes with the personnel, whom he thanked for their service to the country.
The Minister of National Defence, in a brief address, during the visit, stated:
“The pleasure is great, and it is all mine.
I understand, of course, that the presence of the Minister at a great, perhaps the most important, Formation of our Country these holy days creates an extra burden for you.
Yet, on the other hand, there ever exists a symbolism, which matters both for the Armed Forces and Greek Society.
You, the personnel of the Armed Forces, are the ones that guard the Country’s integrity 24/7, 365 days a year, regardless of the days, whether they are holidays or not.
By my presence each year at one of the border regions of the country, I also want to underline your contribution to Greek Society. To raise awareness of the Armed Forces’ contribution to the Country, to its future, towards the feeling of security, the ability of each and every one to be at home, to celebrate the Resurrection in peace, and break the Easter eggs safely alongside their family.
I warmly thank you for what you do, on behalf of both the Government, and the Greek people. But mainly, I would like to express their love, trust, admiration, appreciation, and the warmest wishes to you, your families, everyone, for a Happy Resurrection!
May you always be in good health”!
In the framework of his visit, Mr. Dendias also visited the Metropolitan of Xanthi and Peritheorion Mr. Panteleimon, with whom he exchanged Easter wishes.
