The Minister of National Defence Nikos Dendias, in reply to a journalist’s question in Patra on the extraordinary evaluations in the Armed Forces, stated the following:
“These evaluations are presented as extraordinary, but in fact they are a consistent step, following the decision for the consolidation of camps and units in the New Force Structure, which was passed by Parliament and approved by the Governmental National Security Council.
The Hellenic Armed Forces are too top heavy, something that is completely incompatible with the “2030 Agenda”. The Hellenic Army can not have more general officers than the US Army, which is 20 times larger, and it certainly can not have more camps.
So, within the framework of the “2030 Agenda”, we must rationalise things; and this had to be done as soon as possible in order to take the next steps towards the modernisation of the Armed Forces.
Thank you very much”.
