On Monday, 8 May 2023, the Minister of National Defence, Mr. Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos, represented the Prime Minister, Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and the Government in Symi for the celebrations for the 78th anniversary of the signing of the Protocol of Surrender of the Occupation Troops in the Dodecanese and Crete to the Allies.
Mr. Panagiotopoulos attended the Doxology at the Metropolitan Church of Saint Prodromos and delivered the panegyric. The events were also attended by the Chief of Hellenic National Defence General Staff, General Konstantinos Floros, the Head of the Region of South Aegean, Mr. Giorgos Hatzimarkos, local MP candidates, and other officials.
After the conclusion of the celebrations, the Minister of National Defence, the Chief of Hellenic National Defence General Staff, and the Director of the Political Office of the Prime Minister, Ms. Saki Kypreou, were declared honorary citizens of Symi by the Mayor of Symi, Mr. Eleftherios Papakalodoukas, for their great contribution to the island.
Mr. Panagiotopoulos’s visit was concluded with a visit to gunboat “NIKOFOROS”, which is based on the island.
