On Tuesday, 05 April 2022, the Minister of National Defence Mr. Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos, in the presence of the Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr. Nikolaos Chardalias, the Chief of Hellenic National Defence General Staff, General Konstantinos Floros, and the US Ambassador to Greece, Mr. Geoffrey Pyatt, met with the US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Ambassador Victoria Nuland.
During the meeting, both sides stressed that the renewed, with the addition of new locations, Greece – US Mutual Defence Cooperation Agreement (MDCA) contributes to the expansion and enhancement of the strategic defence partnership between the two countries.
Furthermore, the broad cooperation between the two countries in the armaments sector was stressed, as well as the prospects for further enhancement through mutually beneficial armaments programmes.
Moreover, the two sides discussed the developments in Ukraine, the importance of the provision of every support possible to the country, and the protection of its territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence.
Concerning the security situation in the East Mediterranean, the Minister of National Defence mentioned that Greece promotes, as a pillar of security and stability, bilateral and trilateral cooperations with countries in the broader region, condemns irredentism, illegal and destabilising behaviour, and supports the need for full respect of International Law based on the principle of good neighbourly relations.
