On Holy Wednesday, 16 April 2025, following the ending of the meeting of the Governmental National Security Council, Minister of National Defence Nikos Dendias made the following statement, concerning the placements of Opposition parties concerning their alleged “non briefing” on the 4th Belharra Frigate (FDI):
“I was especially surprised, in the past two days, to notice announcements from the Opposition Parties, stating they were not briefed concerning the 4th Belharra Frigate (FDI).
I think that, during my presence in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as much as in the Ministry of National Defence, I may stand accused of excessive briefing. Not a lack of it however.
The matter of the fourth Frigate is indicated and included in the New Structure of Forces, which has been passed by the competent Committee in the Hellenic Parliament. Furthermore, there is even an estimated date of delivery, if the relevant contract is signed. It is also included in the Long Term Programme of Defence Armaments, which has been passed by the Hellenic Parliament, and presented by the Chief/HNDGS. There is a special graph on the matter of the frigate, with a cost estimate.
Therefore, I entreat the Parties to keep their existential concerns away from National Defence matters.
National Defence is something on which we should be of one mind and opinion.
I have clearly stated in the Hellenic Parliament, that I am at the disposal of any Party or MP, at any time, for briefings.
We have also announced a series of transparency measures, to which not a single whit has been added by any Parliamentary party.
The above notwithstanding, I wish everyone a Happy Easter!”
