On Friday, 23 February 2024, the Minister of National Defence Nikos Dendias, visited the 1 st Parachutist Battalion at “Apostolaki” Camp in Maleme, Chania.
The MPs of Chania Sevi Voloudaki and Alexandros Markogiannakis were also present.
Mr. Dendias addressed the cadre and was briefed on operational matters and the Battalion’s mission, in the presence of the Chief of Hellenic National Defence General Staff, General Dimitrios Houpis, the Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Georgios Kostidis, the Commanding General of the High Military Command of Interior and Islands. Lieutenant General Emmanouil Theodorou, the Commander of NAMFI, Major General Ioannis Moustakis, and the Commanding General of the 5 th Airmobile Brigade “V Crete Division”, Brigadier General Mihail Ploumis.
A memorial service took place during the visit for the fallen of the Noratlas aircraft in Cyprus (1974), following which the Minister of National Defence laid a wreath at the memorial.
