Minister of National Defence participates in the EU Defence & Foreign Affairs Council and assumes the EPP Defence Ministers Presidency

Today the 5th of May and tomorrow the 6th, the Minister of National Defence Mr. Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos is participating in the EU Defence & Foreign Affairs Council. According to the Council’s schedule there will be a briefing on the current geopolitical developments in the wider region, the security challenges, as well as on matters pertaining to the operation of the European Defence Agency. (EDA).

Before tomorrow’s session Mr. Panagiotopoulos will chair for the first time the meeting of EU Defence Ministers belonging to the European People’s Party (EPP), following a related proposal by the EPP’s President Mr. Donald Tusk. These meetings are precursors to EU Defence Ministers Council, where Defence Ministers will mainly discuss matters within their competence, included in the Ministers’ Council Agenda.

As mentioned in Mr. Tusk’s letter, he is convinced that, taking into account the active participation and the contribution of Mr. Panagiotopoulos in the meetings of EPP Defence Ministers, he will successful perform his duties as President.

It is highlighted that the countries participating in the EPP Defence Ministers Meetings are the following: Lithuania, Croatia, Holland, Romania, Ireland, Germany, Greece, Cyprus Austria, Slovenia and Slovakia.
