On Friday 14 June 2024, the Minister of National Defence Nikos Dendias, participated in the Meeting of NATO Defence Ministers held in Brussels.
During the Meeting, in light of NATO’s Summit in Washington, matters were discussed regarding the reinforcement of the Alliance and the joint countering of modern Defence and Security challenges.
The Minister of National Defence stated in his address:
“We have here today, in Brussels, the Ministerial Meeting of NATO and the preparation for the Summit in Washington next month.
We discussed, as always, about the enhancement and consolidation of NATO.
For Greece, it is important to always remind everyone that NATO is not just a military alliance. It is an Alliance of values and principles.
In this context, the most important thing is to abide by the Treaties, to abide by International Law in intergovernmental relations.
Furthermore, I had the opportunity to inform my colleagues on the efforts made by Greece to modernise its Armed Forces.
I referred to the establishment of the Hellenic Centre of Defence Innovation, the new effort to introduce innovation in the Hellenic Armed Forces.
I also had the opportunity to refer to the initiative of the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and of the Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk for the creation of the “dome” of antiaircraft protection over Europe.
Also, in the context of the meeting, I had a short meeting with my Turkish counterpart”.
