On Sunday the 6th and Monday the 7th of June, Deputy Minister of National Defence Alkiviadis Stefanis attended the celebrations for the 197th Anniversary of the Holocaust of the Heroic island of Kassos, along with the Minister of State Georgios Gerapetritis who represented the Hellenic Government.
On Sunday 6 June, the Deputy Minister of National Defence attended the celebrations, addressed a speech and expressed the honour he felt representing the Ministry of National Defence, reassuring that the Armed Forces contribute to the preservation of the historic memory of the whole country.
On Monday 7 June, he visited the fast attack craft XENOS and attended the official doxology at the Holy Temple of Agios Spyridon, officiated by the Metropolitan of Karpathos and Kassos Mr. Amvrossios, laid a wreath at the Monument of fallen Heroes and paid a visit to the Kassos public Library.
Hellenic Parliament representatives, political parties, HNDGS and HNGS, as well as Security Corps, friends and other municipalities were represented at the celebration events, which were organized by the Municipality of the Heroic Island of Kassos and by Mayor Mihail Erotokritos,.
Additionally, the Deputy Minister met with Kassos inhabitant and first-year university student Mrs. Anna Christoforou who along with soldiers serving on the island attended the IT course examined at Panhellenic level and achieved her objective. On his way back the Minister visited the Holy Temple of the Dormition of Virgin Mary and the “Vassilis Hatzivassilis” Museum at Olympos, Karpathos.
