On Friday 7 March 2025, the General Secretary of the Ministry of National Defence Antonios Ikonomou, representing the Hellenic Government, attended the events for the 77th Anniversary of the Integration of the Dodecanese in Kalymnos.
Mr. Ikonomou attended the official Doxology at the Metropolitan Church of the Redeemer, officiated by His Eminence the Metropolitan of Leros, Kalymnos, and Astypalea Mr. Paisios.
Next, he went to the Fallen Memorial for a memorial service, the delivery of the panegyric, and a wreath laying. Afterwards, the General Secretary of the Ministry of National Defence attended the parade of school students and military troops, as well as cultural associations.
In the context of the events, the Head of the Regional Unit of Kalymnos, Mr. Emmanouil Mousellis, awarded a commemorative plaque to Mr. Ikonomou for his long-lasting and valuable contribution to the islands of the Regional Unit of Kalymnos.
The events were also attended by MP for Dodecanese Vasileios Ipsilantis, representing the Hellenic Parliament, the Mayor of Kalymnos Ioannis Mastrokoukos, the Commander of the 5/42 Evzone Regiment “DELVINAKI”, Colonel (INF) Konstantinos Tsiros, as well as Armed and Security Forces officers. Party representatives, regional and municipal councillors, representatives of Reservist Unions and local authorities also attended.
