By the Ministry of National Defence’s government bill, the law 3978/2011 is amended as follows:
-In the context of the procedure for the conclusion of a supply contract for military equipment, the contracting authority is required to conclude, together with this contract, a contact for the “follow-on support” (FOS) of the military equipment to be supplied, with the same or a different economic operator. The “follow-on support” regards the maintenance, spare parts, training, ammunition, modernisation, lifetime extension and upgrading of the military equipment to be supplied.
-The assignment of responsibilities is appointed to the General Staffs of the three branches of the Armed Forces, for the conduct of the procedures needed concerning the conclusion of supply and services contracts in the field of Defence which, due to elevated funds, do not come under the directive 2009/81 of the EC, currently reaching the sum of 414,000 Euros.
The first amendment resolves the perennial problem of support for military equipment and ensures the normal and smooth functioning of weapon systems that will be obtained by the Armed Forces from now on.
The second amendment resolves the imminent problems of maintenance and support of means and systems of the Armed Forces, leading to the increase of their availability, as well as to their enhanced operational utilisation.
