The Minister of National Defence Nikos Dendias states in his 28 th of October 1940 National Anniversary Daily Order, addressing the Officers, NCOs, Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Members of the National Guard, Reserves and the Civilian Personnel of the Armed Forces, the following:
“Officers, NCOs, Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Members of the National Guard, Reserves and Civilian Personnel,
Every year, on this day, we respectfully recall to our National memory the 1940 generation of Greeks. They gave prominence to the National dignity, resisting, beyond any comparison of forces, against Fascism and Nazism. They paid a heavy and honourable price, for the sake of the Greeks’ and Europe’s Liberty. The National Anniversaries, the marches, the holidays are useful, when they function as mechanisms of Historical Paradigm projection. When they function as mechanisms for the projection of the Collective Paragon, which gives meaning to our thousands of years old National presence in the Global State of Affairs.
Greece, with a full realisation of this historic responsibility, will once more declare the “OCHI”, as a comprehensive answer to any effort of dispute of its national sovereignty and its sovereign rights. With powerful alliances and of course with the deterrent force of our Armed Forces, as the spearhead of its actions. Moreover, it will always be a faithful supporter of the International legality and the Acquis Communautaire, assuming a specific stance based on the above context. Women and men of the Armed Forces, I thank you for your services to the Homeland and the Society. I summon you and urge you, inspired by the paradigm of the 28 th of October 1940, to continue being focused in the execution of your duties, based on our ideals and traditions. You are the hope of the Greek people. They know that you are the guardians of every faraway corner of the Greek land and a force of solidarity towards society, in any hardship.
All hail the 28 th of October 1940!
All hail the Armed Forces!
All hail the Nation!”
