Following a demand submitted by the Ministry of Public Order and Citizen Protection, by order of the Minister of National Defence Mr. Panos Panagiotopoulos, a Land Minefield Clearance Battalion team was allocated for the localization, marking off and disposal of explosive ordnance remaining outside the surrounding wall of the Trikala prison after the recent jailbreak.
The Land Minefield Clearance Battalion team from Saturday 23 to Monday 25 March 2013 proceeded to approach-recognition of the area and then to marking off and disposal of explosive ordnance.
It is underlined that the entire operation was conducted by trained personnel of the Army Engineers, according to international standards.
In order to successfully carry out its mission, with safety before anything else, the particular team disposes personal protective equipment (ballistic eyewear, helmets etc) for the localization, transfer and disposal of explosive ordnance.
