The Minister of National Defence states in his Order of the Day for the Armed Forces Day (21 November 2024):
“Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers, Soldiers, Seamen, Airmen, National Guardsmen, Reservists and Civilian Personnel of the Armed Forces,
On 21 November, we honour the Armed Forces of our Country. The constitutional guardian of our national security and independence.
We honour those discharged and those who deposited the most valuable commodity, their life, executing their duty. We honour you.
We also celebrate the Presentation of Virgin Mary, Defender of the Hellenic Armed Forces. Virgin Mary, as everlasting maternal figure of the incarnated good, has always safeguarded the Armed Forces and through them our Country. It constitutes the serene maternal model, the absolute and obvious symbolism, regarding the role of the Armed Forces, through time, in our History.
In a period when the security challenges are evolving, the Armed Forces constitute a necessary condition of our national survival, projecting their steady devotion to the values of Democracy, Peace and Freedom. Assuring, through their power and readiness, the sovereignty and the sovereign rights of our Country. Defending the Greek and European laws successfully.
They prove, serving their dual role, their commitment to the humanitarian principles. They prove their ability to serve the whole society and protect the citizens in every way possible.
Women and men of the Armed Forces,
Your role exceeds the traditional boundary of National Defence. It expands in the obligation of contributing to the whole society in times of need.
Thank you for your Services to the country and society and as every Greek I feel proud.
The Greek people acknowledge the role of the Armed Forces and rely on them. They know that you are the guardians of every spot of the Greek state and at the same time the supporters of society in every difficulty.
I invite and encourage you to continue executing with devotion your constitutional duties, based on the ideals and values of the Nation.
I wish you and your families, health, prosperity and progress.
Long live the Hellenic Armed Forces!
Long live Greece!”
