Order of the Day of Minister of National Defence Nikos Dendias for Armed Forces Day

November 20, 2023

The Minister of National Defence, Nikos Dendias, stated the following in his Order of the Day for Armed Forces Day (21 November 2023):

Officers, NCOs, Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, National Guardsmen, Reservists, and Civilian Personnel of the Armed Forces

Today we celebrate Armed Forces Day.

With pride. With gratitude.

21 November is a great feast.

Our Church celebrates the Presentation of the Theotokos, the Invincible Champion.

Today we honour all of you who serve in the country’s Armed Forces.

We also honour all those who retired after fulfilling their honourable duty.

We honour those who fell on duty.

Serving what is most revered, most sacred, held in greatest esteem, both among the gods and humans, our Country.

During a time when security challenges are evolving, the Armed Forces are elements of our national structure.

They are a symbol of National presence and survival.

They send the message that Greece can protect its independence.

Maintain its territorial integrity.

Protect its sovereign rights.

Constitute a pillar of stability and security in the broader region of the Mediterranean and the Balkans.

Beyond their military role, the social contribution and humanitarian work of the Armed Forces has earned the trust of the Greek people.

To serve these roles, we have to assimilate the lessons learned from the wars of the 21st century, as well as the environmental disasters we have suffered.

This is our way forward.

Men and women of the Armed Forces,

We are proud. Of your dedication, courage, spirit of self-sacrifice, and resilience.

The Greek people acknowledges your role.

Guardians of the Country. Supporters of society in difficult times.

They embrace you.

With love.

They honour you.

They express their gratitude.

May the Theotokos, the eternal embodiment of Motherhood, protect our Armed Forces.

I wish you and your families good health, progress, and prosperity.

Long live the Hellenic Armed Forces.

Long live the Nation”.
