The Minister of National Defence Nikos Dendias is travelling to Cyprus, where he will participate in the Informal Conference of EU Defence Ministers, in Nicosia.
Today, Sunday 7 June 2026, Mr. Dendias will attend the working dinner of the EU Defence Ministers.
During the Informal Conference, on the morning of Monday 8 June 2026, the Defence Ministers are expected to discuss, among others, the existing and emergent security challenges, the latest developments in Ukraine, as well as security matters and freedom of navigation.
A working dinner will follow, wherein the Defence Ministers will exchange opinions on the defence dimension of the Security Strategy under construction, mainly focusing on promoting the European Union’s defence readiness, on the contribution of the EU in reinforcing NATO’s European pillar, on improving the effectiveness of the decision making apparatus, and on the operational implementation of article 42 (2) of the Mutual Defence Clause.
In the framework of his visit to Cyprus, on Monday Afternoon the Minister of National Defence will be received by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulidis, at the Presidential Palace, and he will visit his Beatitude the Archbishop of Nova Justiniana and All Cyprus, Mr. Georgios, at the Holy Archdiocese of Cyprus.
