The Deputy Minister of National Defence Thanasis Davakis represented our country at the Southeastern Europe Defence Ministerial Process – SEDM, held at Sarajevo, on 27/11/25.
During the Meeting, the views of the member-states about the future of SEDM and the Multinational Southeastern Europe Brigade SEEBRIG were discussed, along with the development of their programmes and activities, the consequences of the war in Ukraine, the recent developments in the Middle East and regional security.
The Deputy Minister presented in his speech the programme and the actions that our country will carry out from the post of Presidency in the coming two years: The interconnectivity of military hospitals, the enhancement of the role of women in the field of Defence and Security and natural disasters management.
In the framework of the Meeting, Mr Davakis had bilateral meetings, following their pertinent requests, with the Defence Ministers of Bosnia – Herzegovina and Moldova, as well as with the Deputy Minister of Defence of Georgia.
After the completion of the Meeting, the Deputy Minister visited the Butmir Military Camp, HQ of the European Union Force in Bosnia and Herzegovina (EUFOR Althea), to meet Members of the Armed Forces of our country who serve there.
Mr Davakis said the following, while addressing the Members of our country’s Armed Forces:
“It is an honour to be with you today, in a place where you represent our country with pride, in a military mission with certain particularities. You honour not only the Armed Forces, but also our Homeland.
I am well aware of the everyday demands, the challenges of cooperation at a multinational environment, the responsibility you take upon your shoulders and the sacrifices required of you and your families. Your contribution to the enhancement of the collective defence and stability of this military mission is definitive”.
