The Minister of National Defence Mr Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos participated today, 16 November 2022, in a VTC of the Contact Group for Defence in Ukraine, which was organised by an initiative of the US Secretary of Defence Mr Lloyd Austin, with the participation of Ministers of Defence, Deputy Ministers of Defence and high-ranking Officials.

The Chief of HNDGS General Konstantinos Floros also participated in the VTC.

Current developments in Ukraine were discussed, while particular emphasis was given to the provision of defence equipment, training of the Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel and cooperation between the defence industries for the fulfilment of armament requirements.

During his statement, the Minister of National Defence stressed that the invasion in Ukraine constitutes a blatant violation of International Law, which undermines peace, security and stability in Europe, while he underlined that his recent visit to Ukraine, accompanying the President of the Hellenic Republic, made him aware of the magnitude of destruction and of the human suffering caused by the war.

Mr Panagiotopoulos mentioned the humanitarian and defence assistance provided by our country to Ukraine, like 155 mm ammunitions and more recently the Armoured Infantry Fighting Vehicles BMP-1 and stressed that Greece will continue to support the just cause of the Ukrainian people for the protection of the sovereignty and the territorial integrity of the country.
