Today, 1 April 2021, the Minister of National Defence Mr. Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos had a phone call communication with the United States Defense Secretary Lloyd James Austin following his request.
The two men highlighted the excellent level of strategic cooperation enjoyed by Greece and the USA in the defense field and their intention to further enhance it, by extending and deepening the Mutual Defense Cooperation Agreement.
They also stressed the significance of the bilateral cooperation for the security and stability in the wider region, and they acknowledged the contribution of Greece as a stalwart NATO Ally and a stability pillar.
The Minister of National Defence briefed his counterpart on the security situation in the Eastern Mediterranean and its consequences for the cohesion of the Alliance.
Mr. Panagiotopoulos and Mr. Austin also exchanged views on armament programs and mutual beneficial cooperations in the defense-technical field.
