The preventive medicine and primary care programme carries on

In the framework of the preventive medicine and primary care programme, which continues in small islands, the General Support Ship “PROMETHEUS” sailed this weekend in Kassos island while, according to the programme, today it will be in Chalki island; it will also visit the islands of Simi, Tilos, Fournoi, Agathonissi, Leipsoi, Arkoi and Amorgos.

It has a medical unit fully equipped with a surgery, an intensive care unit, patients’ room, radiological-microbiological laboratory and a dental surgery. A big joint group of doctors of the following specialties: General Surgeon (HA), Practitioner (HA), Cardiologist (HN), Gynaecologist (HN), Radiologist (HN), Ophthalmologist (HN), Paediatrician (HN), Microbiologist (HN), Dentist (HN), as well as nurses, will be on board the ship. This time, the joint group will also be able to examine patients using a portable ultrasound device and microbiological analyser.

It is noted that in September, 421 inhabitants of small islands in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Cyclades were examined.
