Protocol of cooperation signed by Defence Minister Panos Kammenos and Alternate Minister for Tourism Elena Kountoura for the tourist development of estate of the Ministry of National Defence

 The Minister of National Defence Panos Kammenos and the Alternate Minister of Tourism Elena Kountoura met at the Ministry of National Defence today and signed a protocol of cooperation for the utilization of estate owned by the Ministry of National Defence for the tourist development and attraction of investments.

The Alternate Minister of Tourism Elena Kountoura made the following statement:

“The protocol of cooperation that we signed today opens a new chapter in the cooperation of the two ministries and creates significant prospects for the tourist development and attraction of investments on areas which remained unutilized until today.

I thank Minister Mr. Panos Kammenos for this important initiative and his strong interest to contribute to the development of our tourism, of the sector with the greatest growth capability over the next years. This demonstrates the high priority that has been given to tourism in the government policy and in the produced work by our government.

The two ministries will draw a full action plan together for the utilization of selected estated owned by the Ministry of National Defence to promote tourist development and attract investments.

From our side, the Ministry of Economy, Growth and Tourism will consider the capabilities of tourist utilization of areas based on proposals submitted by the Ministry of National Defence, we will formulate certain proposals following an financial-technical study – if necessary – and we will support the actions of the Ministry of National Defence by providing personnel and the expertise that we have in the field of tourist growth. It is very important that we have a common will and we work in common to utilize every available resource in order to achieve growth.

Once more, Mr. Minister, I thank you warmly for the work that you have done from your side, for the important recognition of the prospects of tourism and the practical support to the national effort to reinforce our tourism product.
