Provision of Training Leave for participation in Post-educational Programmes of Specialisation and for the preparation of Post-PhD Research upon decision of the Deputy Minister of National Defence Giannis Kefalogiannis

October 24, 2024

Upon decision of the Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr Giannis Kefalogiannis, a previous Ministerial Decision is amended with a new one, which provides for the inclusion of the training leave for the participation of regular military personnel in post-educational programmes of specialisation (fellowships), as well as for the preparation of post-PhD research.

The Deputy Minister of National Defence stated:

In the context of the wider strategy of the Ministry of National Defence for personnel care, we expand the training leave for the participation of regular military personnel in post-educational programmes of specialisation (fellowships), as well as for the preparation of post-PhD research. With this decision, we pursue the provision of motives for the upgrade of the academic level of our members and the reinforcement of the ties of the Armed Forces with the academic community.

When I accepted the great responsibility of the Deputy Minister of National Defence, I chose to start my visits to the military structures of our Country from the Armed Forces Military Academies. This way, I wanted to project the importance that the political leadership of the Ministry attributes to the Work Force. The cooperation inaugurated then, continued intensively right after, in cooperation with the General Staffs and the academic community of all Schools.

With the recent law we enacted within the year, the opportunity was given for the first time to the Higher Military Educational Institutes, that is the Hellenic Army Academy (Evelpidon), the Naval Academy and the Air Force Academy, to award PhDs, self-reliant post-graduate studies titles, as well as the realisation of post-PhD research of post-graduate studies, giving the students the opportunity to specialise in knowledge fields, like cyber-security and cyber-war.

We invest in the training of the personnel, acknowledging that the most important weapon system of our country is the human factor. Nowadays, the modern Officer is also a scientist.

I would like to encourage the women and men of the Armed Forces to upgrade in every opportunity their cognitive background, extending their critical capability and shaping a strategic perception. In this effort, the Ministry of National Defence will be, in deed, by their side”.
