The Government Gazette pertaining to Law 5166/24 was published (Issue A΄, 206/18.12.2024), including Article 67 with the legal provision for Professional Soldiers, after a legislative initiative by the Minister of National Defence, Nikos Dendias.

With the said legal provision, the issue of the ex officio retirement of Professional Soldiers at the 50^th year of age (50^th) is regulated. Henceforth, they can remain in the Armed Forces until the completion of thirty-five (35) years of actual service or until the sixtieth year of age (60^th).

The goal of the initiative by the Minister of National Defence for the amendment of the legal framework is to cover the needs of the Armed Forces, through the optimal utilisation of Professional Soldiers in the framework of their New Structure, such as the safeguarding of the sense of fairness and equal treatment.
