On Tuesday, 26 June 2018, a ceremony was held in the Ministry of National Defence for the signing of the Programme Contract between the Ministry of National Defence and the Region of Attica for the “Procurement of Medical and Mechanical Equipment for the Military Hospitals of Attica”, financed with €20 m by the Region of Attica. The aim of the contract is to upgrade the healthcare services provided and is part of the opening up of Military Hospitals to society.
The Contract was signed on behalf of the Ministry of National Defence by the Alternate Minister, Fotis Kouvelis and on behalf of the Region of Attica by the Head of the Region, Rena Dourou. The ceremony was attended by the Chief of National Defence General Staff, Admiral Evangelos Apostolakis HN, the Deputy Chiefs of General Staff, as well as the Directors of the Medical Directorate of the General Staffs, as well as the Directors of the Military Hospitals of Attica.
Fotis Kouvelis stressed that the signing of the contract was the capping stone of the Ministry and the Region’s efforts and initiatives which began in 2017. The military hospitals opened up to the public, to the citizens of the Region of Attica, and no longer provide healthcare services only to military personnel and their families. He also stressed that the Armed Forces medical personnel also provides services to other citizen categories, such as the residents in border areas of the country.
Referring to this procurement of medical and mechanical equipment, he stressed that it will also contribute to the upgrading of the services provided, since this equipment is necessary for the health coverage of both the military personnel and their families, as well as the citizens of Attica. It is a new initiative to equip the Military Hospitals with new, modern, and necessary equipment.
The Head of the Region of Attica Rena Dourou stressed that this financing by the Region is not a fragmented action, since the Region of Attica has financed the hospitals of Attica with €40 m in total. She also announced the financing of the Armed Forces with €8.5 m, through plan Xenokratis, to deal with problems related to climate change.
