Under the central coordination of the Ministry of National Defence, today, 30 September 2026, the identification and tracking operation of all the registered livestock on Lesbos has been completed. The operation was conducted in the framework of Foot-and-Mouth Disease management.
On the occasion of the successful completion of the action, the Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr Thanasis Davakis stated the following:
“Military veterinarians worked with exemplary devotion since September 3, when the Ministry of National Defence assumed the central operational coordination for the crisis management of the Foot-and-Mouth Disease, in order to assist the local authorities and the competent bodies in the field.
In full compliance with the deadline we had set for September 30, we carried out a complex and demanding task for the complete identification and tracking of livestock on Lesbos.
I would like to warmly thank the whole personnel of the Armed Forces, as well as the members of the Region, who worked unwaveringly and in coordination for this positive result”.
