Statement made by the Minister of National Defence Mr. Dimitris Avramopoulos following the completion of the military parade on the occasion of the National Day celebrated on March 25

March 25, 2012

The Minister of National Defence Mr. Dimitris Avramopoulos, after the completion of the military parade in honour of the National Day of March 25th 1821, made the following statement:

“National holidays renew traditional supreme meanings and bring our own generations to face their responsibilities.  We observed an impressive parade, one of the best ever held. Our brothers, our children, the youth of Greece marched before us.

During the hard times the country is experiencing, the Armed Forces are the guarantee for stability, security, integrity and independence of our country. We feel really moved during these times, when the political class of our country receives its own messages from History. It needs us all to be united in front of this critical circumstance; to overcome the crisis, to leave it behind and to be able again to look at the future with optimism.

This is the message sent to us by our History, this is what we need to transform into actions. It is a pity that this glorious parade wasn’t followed by the entirety of the Greek people.

We need to leave aside the petty little things keeping us apart, and to look into the future with a spirit of unity and unanimity; to join our forces, face the crisis, leave behind all those that have hurt us and build a new Greece all together, in the spirit of harmony and accord”.
