“ The continuation of operation SNMG 2 in the Aegean by decision of the NATO member states Defence Ministers Council is an important national success, despite the disagreement posed by Turkey.
The total majority of the Ministers of Defence, with the exception of Turkey, agreed that this operation is successful. The refugee flows restriction by the presence of NATO vessels in the area will continue, as long as illegal immigrants and refugees try to enter Europe from the other side of the Aegean.
I highlighted the issue of 15.000 refugees and immigrants located on the Greek islands, asking for the acceleration of procedures and the presence of the Forces. It was accepted by the NATO Ministers of Defence Council . I would like to thank particularly all my NATO counterparts for accepting the Greek positions”.
