The Ministry of National Defence, in the context of its environmental policy, which it promotes through the General Staffs, plans and implements actions aiming to decrease the emitted pollutants and to conserve energy throughout its facilities.
In this context the 1st Army / EU-OΗQ, based on HAGS guidelines, bearing in mind environmental responsibility and social sensitivity, submitted an application dossier for the inclusion of the 404 General Military Hospital of Larissa in a NSRF programme titled “Enhancement of Energy Efficiency of the Public Buildings in Thessaly”, responding to the invitation of the Thessaly Prefecture.
The inclusion of the 404 General Military Hospital of Larissa in the aforementioned programme, aims to decrease energy consumption and to improve the conditions of thermal comfort in the Hospital.
The plan for the energy upgrade of the 404 General Military Hospital of Larissa includes:
a. Application of thermal insulation on the building’s rooftop.
b. Replacement of the wooden frames by aluminum ones.
c. Installation of an array of natural gas boilers for fumes condensation, with a total power of 400 KW, to cover the Hospital’s heating requirements.
d. Installation of a thermal solar system for the production of hot water with arrays of flat plate collectors with selective coating.
e. Replacement of air-conditioners with new ones of Α++ high energy efficiency.
f. Replacement of lighting fixtures by LED lighting.
g. Installation of a photovoltaic system on the building’s rooftop, with a total power of 40, 2 KW.
h. Installation of Building Energy Management System (BEMS).
404 General Military Hospital of Larissa constitutes one of the Army’s hospitals, providing high level health services to the military and citizens.
The proposed interventions contribute to the improvement of the patients’ hospitalisation conditions, the personnel’s familiarity with energy conservation technology and to the enhancement of environmental conscience in general.
It should be noted that these actions contribute to our country’s effort to achieve the goals of air pollutants’ emission decrease and energy conservation.
