The Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr Nikolaos Chardalias communicated today, Wednesday 25 May 2022, via phone with his Swedish counterpart Mr Jan-Olof Lind, in furtherance of their meeting in the context of the European Union’s Foreign Affairs Council (Defence) on 17 May 2022.
During the conversation, views were exchanged pertaining to the developments of the ongoing war in Ukraine and its consequences on the European continent, as well as the application of Sweden for its NATO accession.
The Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr Chardalias repeated the stance of the Prime Minister Mr Kyriakos Mitsotakis, that Greece will fully support Sweden’s application for NATO membership, since it constitutes a decision made in the context of its sovereignty.
