The Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr Giannis Kefalogiannis signs a Joint Ministerial Decision regarding the establishment of a Joint Steering Committee for Military Tourism

The Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr Giannis Kefalogiannis signed a Joint Ministerial Decision with the Minister of Culture Ms Lina Mendoni and the Deputy Minister of Tourism Ms Elena Rapti, regarding the establishment of a Joint Steering Committee for Military Tourism.

The Joint Steering Committee for Military Tourism is competent for the monitoring and coordination of the actions and activities mentioned in the Memorandum of Cooperation, dated 31-05-2021, between the Ministries of National Defence, Culture and Tourism, as well as for the securing of the unhindered collaboration between the Ministries of joint competency. Furthermore, it is charged with the drafting, within six months since its establishment, of a joint Integrated Plan of Actions for the Projection, Promotion and Exposure of Military Tourism, with the supervision of its proper implementation and the drafting of an annual account of proceedings.

The Steering and Materialisation Body of the Cooperations will be the War Museum, which collects the reports from the competent instruments and services, with regards to the course of materialisation of their actions of competency and submits them to the Joint Steering Committee for Military Tourism.

The development of effective strategies and actions for the wider improvement and promotion of identifiability and attractiveness of military sites and memorials is a priority, as well as their organic integration to the tourist and developmental policy of the country.

The Joint Steering Committee for Military Tourism consists of the following members:

a. Lieutenant General of the Air Force (retired) Karamesitis Konstantinos of Antonios, President of the Board of Directors of the War Museum, as President.

b. Captain Chrysanthi Anagnostopoulou, staff officer of the Military Office of the Deputy Minister of National Defence, as a regular member.

c. Major Athanasios Charakopoulos, staff officer of the Military and Technological Support Directorate of the General Directorate for Defence Planning and Support of the Ministry of National Defence, as a regular member.

d. Lieutenant Colonel Angelos Adamopoulos, staff officer of the Β1 Directorate of Β’ Branch of the General Directorate of National Defence, as a regular member, also charged with secretarial duties.

e. Stavroula Fotopoulou, Head of the Directorate of Modern Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture, as a regular member.

f. Parthenis Spyridonas, Head of the Directorate for Legislative Coordination and proper Legislation, of the Ministry of Tourism, as a regular member.

g. Admiral (retired) Diakopoulos Alexandros of Georgios, Α’ Vice President of the Board of Directors of the War Museum, as an alternate of the President.

h. Captain Maria Lambropoulou, staff officer of the Military Office of the Deputy Minister of National Defence, as an alternate member of regular member (b).

i. Captain of the Air Force Konstantina Papadimitriou, staff officer of the Directorate for Military and Technological Support of the General Directorate of Financial Planning and Support of the Ministry of National Defence, as an alternate member of the regular member (c), also charged with secretarial duties.

j. Second Lieutenant Grigorios Mitsopoulos, staff officer of the Β1 Directorate of Β’ Branch of the General Directorate of National Defence, as an alternate member of the regular member (d).

k. Ioannis Drinis, Head of the Department for Intangible Cultural Heritage and Inter-cultural Affairs of the Directorate of Modern Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture, as an alternate member of regular member (e).

l. Logara Eleni of the Department of Special Forms of Tourism of the Ministry of Tourism, as an alternate member of the regular member (f).

The tenure of the regular and alternate members of the Joint Steering Committee for Military Tourism, apart from the President, lasts for three years.
