The Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr Nikolaos Chardalias conducted today, Saturday 2 July 2022, the unveiling of the bust of the Hero Colonel (Infantry) Konstantinos Kokkas, along with the daughter of the deceased Ms Eleni Kokka, in the context of the commemoration event hosted by the Ι Infantry Division. The bust was placed within the grounds of the Leptokarya Rehabilitation Centre – Holiday Resort, which was recently renamed to “COLONEL (INF) KONSTANTINOS KOKKAS” Camp.
Colonel Konstantinos Kokkas, as head of Platoon of the 6th Company of the Hellenic Force in Cyprus, fell in action for faith and country during the war operations of 1974, in the area of the “KIONELI” village, in Cyprus, defending the sovereignty of the great island during the Turkish invasion.
The following individuals attended the honour and commemoration event: relatives of the fallen Hero, the MPs of Pieria Mr Xenophon Baraliakos, Ms Anna Mani-Papadimitriou, Mr Savvas Chionidis and Ms Elissavet Skoufa, the Deputy Head of the Pieria Region Ms Sofia Mavridou, the Mayors of Dion-Olympus Mr Evangelos Geroliolios and of Nikolaos Skoufas Ms Rozina Vavetsi, the Commander of the Ι Infantry Division Major General Paris Kapravelos and the Lieutenant General (retired) Honorary Commander of the Ι Infantry Division Savvas Kolokouris.
