The Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr Nikolaos Chardalias Attends the Celebration for the Great Martyr Saint George, Patron Saint of the Army, at the Infantry School in Chalkida

Today Friday, 29 April 2022, the Deputy Minister of National Defence Mr Nikolaos Chardalias, representing the President of the Hellenic Government, Mr Kyriakos Mitsotakis, attended the celebration of the Great Martyr Saint George, patron saint of the Army, held at the School of Infantry, in Chalkida.

In the context of the event, Mr Chardalias attended the Doxology at Saint George Church and laid a wreath at the Memorial of the 3rd Infantry Regiment Fallen Officers and Soldiers during 1912-1922. Next, the Deputy Minister of National Defence toured the outdoor exhibition of weapon systems and assets in the courtyard of the School and visited the Military Museum, exhibiting high value historic and war relics.

During the ceremony, through a deployed motorised digital tactical communication system, the Deputy Minister of National Defence exchanged wishes, through video-call, with members and soldiers manning the “DILOFOS” and “AGATHONISI” Surveillance Outposts.

The celebration was attended by the MP of Evoia, Mr Spyridon Pnevmatikos, representing the President of the Hellenic Parliament, the venerable Archbishop Ieronymos II of Athens and all Greece, the Deputy Minister of Rural Growth and Food Mr Simos Kedikoglou and the MP of Evoia Mr Athanasios Zembilis.

The Parliament Parties were represented by the MP of the B Constituency of Western Attica, Mr Georgios Tsipras (SYRIZA), Colonel (ret.) Georgios Tsitsilianios (KINAL), Rear Admiral (ret.) Ioannis Douniadakis HN (KKE) and the MP of the A Constituency of Eastern Attica, Mr Antonios Mylonakis (ELLINIKI LYSI).

The ceremony was also attended by HNDGS/Chief General Konstantinos Floros, HAGS/Chief Lieutenant General Charalambos Lalousis, HNGS/Chief Vice Admiral Stylianos Petrakis, HAFGS/Chief Lieutenant General Themistoklis Bourolias and Fire Service/Chief Lieutenant General Alexios Rapanos, representatives of the Port Police-Hellenic Coast Guard and Hellenic Police Chiefs, as well as Defence Attachés of foreign countries.

Finally, the event was also attended by the Metropolitan Bishop of Chalkida, Istiaia and Northern Sporades Chrysostomos, the Vice Regional Governor of Evoia Mr Georgios Kelaiditis and the Mayor of Chalkida Ms Elena Vaka.
